Following your application

Once you have submitted your application you should receive acknowledgement from the university admissions office within a week or so. Depending upon the time of year it may take up to 5 or 6 weeks before you hear whether your application has been successful or not.

The outcomes to your application are likely to be:

Request for further information to supplement your application or a request to expand on your proposal.
Conditional offer based on your application - a conditional offer may for instance be given if you are still need to complete conditions before entry, most usually completion of your current studies, evidence of English language or providing original certificates and references on headed paper
An unconditional offer – you have successfully met all the necessary requirements to study in the Department – NB you may still need to make a separate application for funding or studentships
A reject – this may be due to lack of specific supervision in the department rather than a lacking research proposal. It may be worth checking as to why you have been rejected to see if there is anything you can do to improve your chances of an offer.
