Home The right course?

The right course?

Choosing the right course as a postgraduate student is probably not as daunting as when you were an undergraduate. You will have your own experience and ideas about what you want to study as well as a variety of resources to call upon such as the Careers Centre, departmental academic staff, fellow students and family.  There is also a wealth of information about each course of study in www.Findamasters.com, www.prospects.ac.uk and www.postgrad.com.  Once you have narrowed down your choices it’s a good idea to do some research on specifics to find out if the course and the institution are suited to your needs.

Postgraduate study will be an intellectual and personal investment.  The emphasis for choosing a place for your postgraduate study will probably focus on the department’s academic faculty, the quality of teaching and research, further studies and job opportunities on graduating and diversity of the student body on your course.  All UK Universities are subject to rigorous checks by the Quality Assurance Agency to ensure they maintain the best possible academic standards and quality and deliver the best educational experience to students.  You can find out how each institution and department is rated by going to the website www.qaa.ac.uk

Most Taught Masters degrees are fairly intense and demanding so facilities such as the Library resources, comfortable study surroundings, internet facilities, and transport links so that you can get around may be marginally more important than the social facilities. Nevertheless, you still want to get the most out of your investment, so  research into finding out if the course is right for you is still extremely important.
